As we often mention at Gentlemans Butler one of the fundamentals of luxury grooming for ladies and gentlemen must include your hands and with the summer coming its also important to think of your feet for men increasingly now their brows.
I know everyone from mechanics to city traders having manicures. The mechanic spends their week surrounded by dirt so actually really prizes looking good in the home life.
For the city trader the impact of the hand shake, manicured hands, ironed shirt, cufflinks, watch and suite is a very powerful statement. In business it’s also a trust thing for me. If the person across the desk from myself does not look after them self, the trust issue will come into question.
My journey started with myself a sufferer from eczema, so when my hands started to get better and I had my first manicure probably about 25 years ago it was a real moment as your hands are a key component of your confidence to communicate.

Having visited Nails & Brows in Mayfair, 5 minutes walk from Green Park Underground and just off the beautiful Berkeley Square, soon after they launched I felt it a good time to return.
It’s easy to find and when you arrive you will be welcomed into a white and flower filled room by smiling ladies.
Coat taken, fresh water and a magazine I take a seat on their pedicure throwns and start to unwind because Gentlemen this is a space to let go and either fall asleep, have a good read or embrace in the art of some chit chat, for me actually I go for all three and I think I can admit to enjoy a touch of the flirtation, something I am a big fan of as long as it’s done in the right way.
My pedicure was looked after by Natalia and my manicure by Chrysi
Both would use hot wax to soften, cuticle work, buffing, cutting, shaping, moisturising and last of all I often finish my nails with polish… boys are going eerrrrr naaaaa and some girls going ooooh and others mmmmm.
I know possibly a little radical, well fear not it’s not quite as crazy as it sounds. I use a very pale pink colour which gives both the nail a gloss and gives the nails a very healthy and smart look.
They also do use cuticle softener and a nail treatment to strengthen the nails which for me is important as they are prone to breaking. One tip for Gentlemen not used to having a manicure is to discuss whether you like your nails rounded or squared. For myself I always like them rounded.
I genuinely was impressed by both and finished feeling very pleased. I also regularly ask to have my socks and shoes put on, as its always a shame to ruin their hard work.
Then upstairs to meet Silvia an Iranian who has been threading and looking after brows for seventeen years. The Iranians certainly have a long history of beauty in general but particularly threading.
We chat about the job in hand and intended outcome, which is not to reduce the thickness, but to tidy, removing stray hairs and shape.
She also added a little make-up, yes I know to give some definition and many would not have noticed I was wearing brow colour.
After about 2 hours of grooming, preening and pampering I walked out feeling smart, relaxed and definitely well groomed.
Thank you to the ladies of Nails and Brows and I hope to return sooner rather than later. They are professional, charming and welcoming which in my book is a perfect combination.
