Interestingly I do not shave every day, something I was told ages ago was good for your skin. Indeed, we live in an era where the rough stubble look is fashionable. But in the same way that I do not wear a jacket every day, nor a suite I absolutely love it when I do.
Shaving done well can just be one of those beautiful times that if you shave less often is a precursor to usually something important. An important function, an important meeting or indeed a romantic date as though ladies may like the stubble, most do not like a stubble kiss.
So yes, for me it’s a time when I can groom, something good on the radio or some beautiful music, some me time and that rather sensual moments in front of the mirror where you can let go and transform.
So that’s the beauty of a beautiful razor. A piece of beauty to turn something maybe historically mundane to some into a moment of piece, poise and yes precision.

Gold is one of life’s purely decadent and glorious choices and certainly if you are a man of my age the name Goldfinger conjures up several key scenes from “No I expect you to die” to meeting Pussy Galore and equally the scene where James Bond finds Jill Masterson dead and covered in gold paint.
If you are going to spend your time in front of the mirror, then conducting your ritual with a gold razor I think is what all James’s should be doing.
Looking through some words from the founder I did not see James mentioned but I did see a strong connection to one of James’s biggest loves, after his love for the fairer sex which is his love of fast cars with gadgets.

We aim to conceive and develop razors and accessories that stand out in terms of appearance, handling, and performance. – Definitely sounds like a formula 1 car ….
But then again high design is just that whether it’s a bespoke kitchen, a piece of furniture……. Design excellence takes time and ultimately It Is something that should fit perfectly to the form of a human’s body as well as having the manoeuvrability to move seamlessly around the contours of a face. Those are my words, but you can indeed see the similarities to both cars and skiing.
The R1 razor was conceived as a razor to enjoy.
The world of classic and super cars inspired my initial design ideas.
This competitive world is without question one where design excellence flourishes, and where shape, colour and emotional appeal all play their part. I wanted to adopt this approach and apply it to my ambition to create a premium shaving brand with a difference.
Production partners are concentrated in Birmingham, the centre of automotive manufacturing competence and capability in Britain.
We were fortunate with our launch in London in 2011 to attract the attention of Harrods, arguably the most prestigious retailer in the world. Harrods have stocked Bolin Webb uninterrupted ever since, which is a strong testament to the appeal and durability of our razors and accessories. I am thankful for that.
As a small British brand, we have managed to distribute our razors across the globe – from London to Shanghai, and from Seattle to Sydney.
Shaving Tips
Sometimes customers ask Bolin Webb “what are some tips for a really close shave?”. This is more straightforward to answer than implement, as anyone wanting to shave needs ready access to shaving tools in good condition, and of course water for a wet shave.
Firstly, if you want a close shave, stick to wet-shaving. Although convenient, electrical shavers will not provide as smooth a finish in comparison to a hand-held razor, lubricated by water with cream, oil or gel. Sticking to a wet shave, we can highlight five tips for your “really close shave”:
1. Soften your beard beforehand. This is an essential part of a close and comfortable shaving routine. This might be achieved by simply rinsing your face in warm water or first enjoying a full morning shower.
2. Choose a shaving cream, gel or oil that you feel is most comfortable and practical for you. There is no one formulation perfect for all men. More detail about the different skincare solutions can be read on our blog choosing between shaving foam, cream or gel
3. Choose a handle that provides a firm and comfortable grip. Bolin Webb of course recommends our own shaving razors. There are shape and weight differences, appealing to a range of preferences.
4. We strongly believe that a Gillette blade provides the sharpest and most robust cutting edge. These need to be in good condition, and that is measured by its effectiveness when you shave – and not the number of shaves of number of weeks between replacing one shaving cartridge for another.
5. Direction and travel of the blade over your face will influence how closely the blade can glide over your skin, as the contours of your face and the different angles at which stubble grows will mean the blade coming in one direction can have a different effect compared with another direction – for example an upwards motion versus a downwards motion. Try different approaches carefully. Sometimes applying both gives that really close shave,
To conclude, each man has a unique skin and beard. Hair grows in different thicknesses and at different speeds. Skin sensitivity will vary from one man to the next. So each one of us needs to find the product and routine that suits us best, individually. This takes some testing, so be patient but also curious occasionally to try new solutions
