The long and illustrious history of the IWC Portugieser watch family dates back to the nautical instruments used by the seafarers and explorers of old. It seems more than fitting that this classic line should include a nautically inspired, ocean blue precision chronograph.

I myself have a box of nautical instruments from my father who was a navy man and adore the history of sea navigation and with a name like Grenville, the sea is in our blood.

It makes purchasing a modern watch of quality such as this all the more special and personal when you know what came before.

The Schaffhausen watch manufacturer therefore created the IWC Portugieser Chronograph Classic Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS, a watch that features a stunning combination of a blue dial with the warmth of a red gold case.

The shimmering dial with its sun-pattern finish creates a subtle contrast with the red gold counters and hands, which at once add a striking touch of lustrous colour and yet harmonise perfectly with the rest of the watch.

Features

The tradition behind the Portugieser family stretches all the way back to the precision nautical instruments used by seafarers to discover the world. A traditional line of nautically inspired precision instruments would be incomplete without a blue dial inspired by the sea. Thus, IWC manufactured the Portugieser Chronograph Classic Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS, a unique combination of a blue dial and a warm redgold case. The dial with its shimmering sun-pattern finish provides a discreet contrast to the red-gold counters and hands that provide a wonderful highlight. This timepiece has a clearly organized dial into which every detail is integrated.

About the Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS

The Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS watch collection comprises 18 exclusive timepieces that Bucherer created in cooperation with 11 renowned watch manufacturers.

For 130 years, Bucherer has offered its customers a large selection of outstanding timepieces from first-class watchmakers. Its unique relations with the most distinguished brands in the industry are the fruit of many years of continuous collaboration, rooted in know-how, mutual respect and exceptional technical expertise. These rare partnerships produced the 17 men’s and ladies’ watches from the exclusive Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS collection, which Bucherer developed jointly with the watchmakers Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Carl F. Bucherer, Chopard, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, H. Moser & Cie., Panerai, Piaget and Tudor. The central theme of the collection is the colour blue. For countless artists over the centuries, blue has been a source of inspiration, reminding us of the sky and sea, and of the blue blood of the nobility. It has also become a symbol of the company Bucherer, and hence an identifying feature of the Bucherer brand.
