Afternoon Tea at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London
Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel
86-90 Park Lane London W1K 7TN United Kingdom
Grosvenor House has commanded its position on Park Lane since opening its doors in 1929. Steeped in a rich and fascinating history, historical features such as original Lutyens wrought iron gates and the iconic Great Room, once an ice-skating rink, have welcomed guests for over 85 years. It’s quintessentially British style and elegance has long been associated with Royalty, international dignitaries and celebrities from the worlds of film, music and sport.
In addition I have a personal connection with the hotel as my godfather was a manager there.
As part of National Afternoon Tea Week #afternoontea I wanted to highlight a perfect spot to while away a very pleasant and refined afternoon with a good friend.
This is exactly what I did very recently celebrating the birthday of a very dear friend of mine and as the hotel has recently taken on a new pastry chef it seemed an equally perfect moment to introduce her refreshed signature Anna’s Afternoon Tea.
I travelled by bus, my friend by bike, how very eco-friendly we are, entering off Park Lane, though strictly speaking the main entrance is on the other side Park Street, where there is a very grand and sweeping entrance.
Sat in the bay windows looking over a gleaming Hyde Park in the late afternoon sun it was not long before both of us started forgetting about time, concentrating more on the choice of tea and which cake to have next.
The staff were all smiles and Lorenzo looked after us.
Our tea was made up of: champagne, a choice of teas (we chose Assam and Earl Grey), sandwiches, scones, puddings, cakes and we were given a goodie bag to take home at the end.
We spent a good two and a half hours and left very relaxed and happy. If you are looking for a quintessential English afternoon tea in a central London location this I feel would be a perfect choice. I thoroughly recommend it.
We should also mention the highly impressive restoration of the hotel which now sees The Royal Hyde Park Suite and Royal Mayfair Suite complete. These Royal Suites join 40 premium category suite refurbishments (Premium Park View Suite, Park View Suite, Premium Executive Suite /The Howard Suite and Executive Suite)
The Royal Mayfair Suite and the Royal Hyde Park Suite were named with both the hotel’s royal heritage and prime location in mind, with designs and finishes taking inspiration from the hotel’s rich and historical association with global travel and British innovation.
Each Royal Suite (from £5,000 per night) has a large bedroom and walk in wardrobe, a grand living room, kitchen complete with modern fixtures, guest bathroom and spacious, double vanity marble bathroom with rain shower feature, standalone bath tub and is outfitted with premium Aromatherapy Associates amenities.
