35 New Cavendish, relaxed luxury Marylebone restaurant is a perfect watering hole, still very much in central London but with a relaxed feel and the quality of their ingredients really is impressive.
Having finished my meetings at The Lanesborough Hotel I walked up through Hyde Park one beautiful summers day to arrive at 35 New Cavendish for an evenings reservation. My first impressions said high end gastro with a relaxed environment and a high end clientele.
Head chef, Douglas Santi, spearheads 35 New Cavendish. You get the idea when you hear specialities include 100 layer lasagne born out of his grandmother’s kitchen. Open 7 days a week, customers are encouraged to enjoy themselves on the outdoor heated sidewalk terrace for a morning cappuccino or enjoy an after work drink with the restaurant providing a marvellous selection of top Cuban cigars, warm blankets and premium cocktails.

I had taken to my seat and fed with a sprightly cocktail whilst I waited. There was a table of 5 city gents with accents from across the world sat next to me. I think this sums the place up well. An international clientele living in London who are used to quality but looking for a relaxed and stylish environment to eat some good food and catch up. I earwigged a little, terrible I know and admired the window with a very artistically placed vase of flowers and started to unwind.
My friend soon arrived and after hugs and smiles we were soon diving into their mini burgers and adored Italian meats.
All in all we consumed mini burgers, cocktails, Italian meats, pasta, beef and Crème Brulee, and partook in some Negroni Sbagliato, Chardonnay Tamarisco 2015, Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Rita, 2010 and dessert wine Beuitenverwachting Muscat, 2013
The menu is a diverse, modern and European drawing inspiration from classic French and Italian cuisine with added touches of Middle Eastern influences.
Launching in November 2014, The Cavendish is certainly a good stop for followers of Gentlemans Butler as its mix of good food, relaxed vibe and plush interiors is perfect for so many occasions and we both thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
It will come as welcome news to know they always choose from the best suppliers such as sourcing meat from renowned butcher Audrey Allen who is as supplier for HRH Queen Elizabeth and Santi chooses specialty cheeses from La Fromagerie.
All-day brunch is served from 8am to 5pm offering breakfasts with old school family favourites done with style such as avocado poached eggs (always a winner), oven baked pancakes with honey and white peaches, Challah bread French toast with bananas and raspberries, and an Italian favourite homemade bombolini with custard and strawberry jam.
Spread across two-floors the restaurant and three bespoke bars (one downstairs and two upstairs) add to your options with an intimate teal coloured private dining room accommodating 14 people seated and 26 standing and a private dining area which can seat up to 20 and 40 standing. They also organise wedding receptions, private dinners and business meetings.
Certainly gets a thumbs up from Gentlemans Butler. Great location, upmarket atmosphere but relaxed, good food with the quality of the ingredients really is evident. Viva 35 New Cavendish.
