Pickett, quintessential english gentility, Mayfair, London

Luxury presents, a shop, a feeling, a person and much more.
Are you saying you have found a new country Michael?
Well not exactly but it’s certainly is a new world!!
Apart from bringing you the best Gentlemans Butler does feel strongly that life deserves experiences and completely supports creative soles.
Earlier on this year Trevor Pickett, the man behind Pickett had the wonderful fortune of meeting Michael Grenville!
Or maybe it should really read Michael Grenville was captivated by Trevor’s repartee…..
As many of us know London espouses a wonderful cultural dynasty and Trevor plays the role of stylist, lead actor, cultural historian and etiquette connoisseur with supreme theatrical joie de vivre.
The first time I visited their shop on the beautiful Burlington Arcade, Trevor, two ladies from his PR company and several staff discussed some amusing but equally interesting subjects starting with, whether it is OK to buy a handbag as a gift and if so what type. I used the analogy of men buying lingerie for ladies and whether they are buying indirectly for themselves or for their partner. This certainly brought a smile to faces and a touch of mirth. After this we moved onto the art of buying gloves and how you put gloves on, with another line of amusement when I said I had bought ladies gloves in the past. Trevor with his highly amusing but wonderfully inclusive wit told me I was actually cadet sized.

After this we moved onto the art of choosing the correct belt and then upstairs for bags that are basically the modern version of Doctor Doolittle’s Medicine Bag……I think I may get a very low look for saying that……but they are so very chic, then onto photo albums and whether people still use them. I thought that they were probably extra special because of the digitisation of photography and would make a wonderful gift. There are a number of classic, elegant and iconic pieces in his store including their traditional Bridlehive Briefcase which I felt espoused real style, beautiful craftsmanship and was really “gent chic”.

Look out for The Alice bag, cuff link/stud boxes and calf skin wallets in pink lambskin.

Trevor has grown up in the Burlington Arcade and the surrounding area and is his home away from home. He has a strong and extensive relationship with this historic strip as he does with his manufacturers. He has worked with most of them for over 25 years. In the early stages of Pickett, the briefcases and gloves were the centrepieces, the travel accessories and larger luggage came later. Throughout time Trevor has personalised his own colours, the Pickett Newmarket tan, the Pickett London Tan and the Pickett Australian Nut.
