Luxury pampering at the Hotel Aurelio, Lech Austria. If you were a prince & princess travelling incognito to the mountains The Hotel Aurelio in Lech, Austria would be perfect. Supreme luxury without the need to shout about it.
Earlier on in March Gentlemans Butler experienced several blissful days in Lech, staying at the elite Hotel Aurelio, the first 5 star plus hotel in Austria.
Do read our feature we wrote on the resort Lech and the multitude of luxury experiences there is on hand.

This time we would be heading south east of Bregenz to the holiday region of Lech Zürs am Arlberg, which also resides in Vorarlberg.
When it comes to the best and the most elite The Hotel Aurelio ranks consistently in the top ten worldwide and some would say it is the best. Lech is known internationally as having the most 5 star hotels and this hotel is at the top of tree.
For many international travellers the ultimate luxury hotels remind them of being at home. I have visited many great and impressive hotels around the world but the warmth and exacting standards of The Hotel Aurelio are so impressive because though one is surrounded by luxury it’s the staff and the generosity that goes with this that really sets them apart. This is perfect for the mountains, as having supreme homely comfort is spot on.
One morning having breakfast, for me probably my favourite meal of the day, we were a little short of time so expressed this to our ever so friendly waiter. He took this on board and tried very successfully to raise the tempo. Our breakfast was still perfect, calm and tasty and we finished on schedule. The really endearing thing was he came along at the end and asked whether he was fast enough. I thought at the time that this really was superb service.
When talking with my girlfriend Dana who joined me for this perfect getaway she commented on the ease of how the hotel was run. Like most things done superbly they should look effortless and this is very much the feeling one has being in the hotel.
On our arrival from Zurich airport, after a journey of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes we were met by smiling faces as you would expect, but none the less first impressions are important and the feeling was of complete calm, so within minutes we were being escorted to our junior suite in The Clubhouse which when one is tired is very important.
NB Innsbruck is about 1hour 30 minutes
After a few minutes, and a look through the windows to the beautiful mountains, my smile to Dana just said it all. Perfection….
With nuts, fruits and chocolate in the room, soon the door went with a bottle of Verve Cliquot champagne, courtesy of the hotel, and every day we were greeted on arriving back in our room with different assortments. You might wonder why I mention these little things; well it’s often the multitude of little niceties that add to the feeling that you are being valued and looked after, which is a lovely feeling to have.
You will start to understand why about 75% of the hotel bookings are repeat visitors.
Designed by leading interior experts as you would expect the feeling is of luxury; mountain, alpine, chalet and home all wrapped up in one. Sometimes one visits a hotel and is consistently going wowww by how big or tall something is, but with The Hotel Aurelio it’s a little different, because one keeps on feeling, they just have got it spot on but in a calming friendly but definitely luxurious way.
Both of us just commented on how cosy but supremely stylish it all was. Beautiful photography taken by British photographer Tim Hall , a British Fine Art Photographer, who has shot a series of landscapes from around the villages of Lech and Zurs is on permanent display on the walls of the hotel.
As I nicknamed the concept of “Rugged Chic” when visiting Minnesota in the US last year I could equally describe the “Hotel Aurelio” as having “Alpine Chic”
Those of you who like to watch the world go by will notice that a hotel has a sound. It’s often made up of the numbers of people, the types of interior decoration used, the chit chat, staff and general goings on of the day. To me the Hotel Aurelio’s sound is one of a peaceful but friendly family.
We had a fair bit of interaction with nearly all the departments, from reception, dining room, chauffeur to drinks by the fire and wonderfully the hotel has not removed the staffs characters, which I really approve of, but in their own different ways they add that added extra.
Quite amusingly on our last night we decided we should ventured out to have “a wild & crazy night out in Lech”, well maybe see what we could find. There are indeed some lively bars, though they seem much more lively from about 5 to 7sh than later on. Having done our fact finding mission, and concluded that Lech is definitely “not a wild a crazy party town” though I am sure it has its moments we ended back exactly where we were about 90 minutes earlier, which was having a glass of wine by the fire, whilst having a good chat with the drinks waiter, which was much more fun and relaxing.
Has 14 bedrooms and five suites …a beautiful spa and a personal ski butler, mountain views from the bathtub and much more…
Rooms and suites
The Hotel Aurelio: 19 rooms
2 x Aurelio Suites (110 m²)
8 x Top Deluxe Rooms (52 m²)
Chalet Aurelio – Club House
1 x Club Master Suite (200 m²)
6 x Club Comfort Deluxe (42 m²)
2 x Club Junior suites (65 m²) – “We stayed in this one”
We were not there to ski (though we are skiers), the hotel is a ski-in ski-out with a locker room literally a few steps from the piste, with only 150m ski to the lifts with heated boot racks and all the trappings. Despite its relatively uncrowded slopes, this part of Austria has a good snow record and is superb for intermediates.
Such is their attention to detail that a bridge was built meaning the piste was taken past the hotel.
THE WONDERFUL CUISINE…
The Hotel Aurelio Food experience is probably a good way of putting it.
Again one needs to say that most high end hotels have excellent food, but here I would sing the praises of a highly inventive chef and an excellent front of house team.
In talking with Dana about this, she commented that there was a lot of love that went into the whole experience, and the amazing choice of modern luxury crockery is really quite a piece of modern art in itself.
Breakfast – An excellent choice of fresh fruits and choice of fresh meats and cheeses, continental breakfasts, pastries and eggs of whichever type cooked to perfection
Lunch – Quite a change of direction, In many ways more traditional. I had a fantastic burger which was exactly what I wanted.
Dinner – This is the time when all the bells and whistles are used. About 5 courses of clever, refined gastronomy. From the presentation to the choice of flavours to the originality, they really do surpass themselves and I think any food critic would be impressed.
Personally I adored breakfast & lunch and Dana as a food connoisseur delighted in all the multiple flavours and ideas on show for Dinner.
Of course the cocktail and wine list as you would expect is top notch.
Get snug as you sink into the deep cushions around the open fire in the Licca Lounge – this is the heart of the Aurelio and relaxing meeting place for those après ski stories or an aperitif.
Located right on the Schlegelkopf piste, is the perfect venue for lunch, drinks, or simply to sit in the sun and soak up the atmosphere. Enjoy the great scenery with breath-taking views of the mountains.
As grooming and spas are a key area for Gentlemans Butler, you will not be surprised to hear these facilities were used regularly.
The seven-treatment-room holistic spa is huge, with a 23 metre pool, a gym, relaxation areas, a Jacuzzi, steam & sauna rooms.
At the end of our daily excursions we spent about 90 minutes in the spa, with a swim and then a use of the muscle calming rooms.
I did get to experience a wonderful 85 minute massage with Marcelo which after a long day snow shoeing my lower back and gluts were in definite need of attention.
THE HOTEL AURELIO EXPERIENCE…
I need to emphasise how good we thought this was. I have visited many top class 5 star hotels where I thought things were very good but it is rare that I have stayed somewhere where so much is completely spot on.
