The Roseland Peninsula
Located south of Truro and just over four hours from London The Nare is a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of life, or discover the stunning natural beauty, culture and history that is found in Cornwall.
For me one of the best ways of looking at this is to remember a gentler time of one’s childhood, with the safety that gave one, with friendly atmosphere combining tradition, comfort, standards and service.
In 2018 they received a gratuitous award for Best Hotel for Sustainability from Condé Nast Johansens and a César award from the Good Hotel Guide for Best Seaside Hotel in Britain.

An independent family run hotel. The Nare’s proprietor, ex Royal Navy Toby Ashworth is a charming gentleman who values the traditions such us holding regular cocktail gatherings to meet his guests and keeping the tradition of dressing for dinner with gentlemen wearing a jacket and tie.
The Cornish Coastline

by enjoying the wonderful calm watered sandy beaches or enjoying the hotel pools.
This is the perfect antidote to the stresses of modern life and where rather lovingly you are more likely to sit and just unwind than worry over the likes or dislikes on your twitter page.
We wanted to recreate the tradition of The English gentry heading to Cornwall to enjoy the wonders of beautiful English hospitality, cream teas, relaxation, and good air.
The English Seaside
The Look and Feel. As mentioned, it has a home from home feel, with the style of interiors that you may find in Country Life. Personally, I adore the blend of classic wallpaper styles and traditional English Furniture. Once you get around by the pool it becomes more modern and Al Fresco.
The Rooms
They are all good and many people return year after year with not only exceptionally high return rates, but the average length of stay being also high, both I feel says a lot for client satisfaction. I personally preferred the rooms/suites in the old building as they are nonstandard shapes which I prefer and the suites as you would expect offer more space.
Service with a smile
From the pickup at the rail station where I had a wonderfully warm welcome and a convivial conversation in the car, giving me a true Cornish welcome to Charlotte on reception with her broad smile to Marco running the restaurant I genuinely felt looked after. Equally the ladies dressed in their traditional black and white maids outfit serving afternoon tea really took me back to my childhood. They all have my thanks as I was truly looked after, not in a fake sanctified way but with genuine warmth.
Swimming
I truly enjoyed the heated pool and if my stay had been longer, I would have gladly swum in the sea which is calm, secluded and shallow.
Exploring the Cornish surroundings
You are in a walker’s paradise in all directions.
The cliff top walks are not only stunning but lots of fun, meandering from fields to rocky headlands to beautiful Cornish Villages.
Although I had some good chats along the way including meeting two ladies who were doing a six-hundred-mile coastal walk, the real joy was being in space so quiet you can just hear the bees buzzing and the gentle sounds of the sea lapping below. It really is special.
Getting About
The hotel now owns a new Morgan sports car which can be taken out for the day and since 2015, The Alice Rose, a truly elegant sea launch. I enjoyed a wonderful two-hour drive in the Morgan.
including visiting the stunning St Just Church,
which is surrounded by the most unique selection or fauna and flora,
somewhat made me feel I was in Jurassic Park.
Cuisine
I am a huge fan of breakfast and sitting down and looking out on these stunning views is an added joy. As you would expect they serve everything from The Full English to fresh fruits and yoghurts. Dressing for dinner with jacket and tie had my tick along with the succulent foods my highlight was seeing the sweet trolley, gosh it’s a long time since I have heard this, and they held an array of super traditional English puddings.
Letting Go
Apart from the convivial service probably the true reason why many visit is to enjoy the peace and quiet. If you allow yourself several days, take a good book, find a seat looking out to sea and just let go.
Fellow guests
A definite highlight for me. From ladies who have been holidaying there for over 20/30 years to whole families from grandmama to youngest children, I had the pleasure of meeting several and I can say firstly how reassuringly civilised it was to meet others who you can hold a good conversation with and in a way, one gets the impression of a family away from home.
Getting There
We recommend taking the GWR overnight sleeper from Paddington to Truro, where the hotel will pick you up. Alternatively, if you are staying at The Ritz in London, they regularly send the Range Rover to take you door to door.
A slice of the best of English this wonderful location offers Cornish luxury, blending seaside fun, friendliness, comfort, tasty food, sea air and just letting go.
I was truly impressed.
