Occasionally at Gentlemans Butler we do things a little differently. This along with 2 other features that we will be posting soon is one of those occasions. Last year we were invited to Malaysia with the last part spent in Langkawi, an island about 1 hour’s flight north of the capital Kuala Lumpur.
I think this is a perfect mix of a wanderlust luxury hotel.
I wanted to keep this little secret until the right time, which I feel is now.
I feel less is more sometimes, I think the pictures will tell their own story.
I cannot emphasise what a wonderful hotel this is and I am fussy.
I spend my life experiencing and observing and so I really do mean this.
The minute I walked through their doors, the magic of the hotel started working.
It’s not easy to run a top luxury hotel, to keep the balance between professionalism and being informal and friendly but they have this spot on.
The first thing I noticed was the friendly and genuine welcome.
My bags taken, a soothing drink and a shoulder massage always ticks the right boxes.
The style of the hotel is probably the aspect that should be highlighted the most as it’s not just one aspect but the whole production that gives this hotel the wowww factor and as an Englishman what I love most is this wowww is not shouted with a vulgar yelp but is whispered with warmth and love.
The style obviously starts with the look of the hotel, simple elegance, tall ceilings, long corridors, the perfect choice of soft furnishings which reflect the colours of the culture whilst telling the story with modernity and a chic style.
The staff’s uniforms reflect again their colonial past whilst absolutely saying they are Malaysian.
And there is a journey front the reception to the piece de resistance, their pools and breakfast areas/ bar/cocktail lounge……. From the special reception either walk through their beautiful tropical courtyard (where I sat on several occasions letting life drift by) …
or walk down the serene corridors towards the sight of their pools and the sight of the sea, a short distance beyond…..
The evening I arrived I booked in for a long soothing massage. As you will see by the photos this was set in rooms that merged modernity with comfort and the simple but lovely cotton sheets, with the view of the mountains through the slats and a breeze gives the feeling of a long journey in the orient.
I entered feeling a little stressed after my journey, I was nurtured by both expertise but also their abilities and left ready to drift away.

Malaysian dignitaries and celebrities from all corners stay at The Danna and this is the infinity pool for the presidential suite.
Though there is a lot to do nearby, some of which I will be introducing in further related features, the purpose of The Danna in my opinion is to stop, unwind and let life pass you by.
The beautiful setting, gardens, stunning pools, relaxing spa treatments, mouth-watering food all contribute to your stay putting you first.
A luxury stay probably starts with the bedroom.
One thing that can be an issue, even in top hotels in noise travelling but I slept like a mouse and their bathrooms with slatted wood features really adds to the feel of a contemporary colonial estate.
The morning offers a perfect start with the staff’s smiling face, the simple fresh food and then to have ones breakfast poolside is perfection.
I wish I could do that every day.
This is without a shadow of a doubt somewhere I would love to return to and it would be my mission to do as little as possible. Leave the rat race behind, take a good book, indulge in some leisurely walks and then collapse by an idyllic pool and snooze….
