The Valet, the gentleman’s suit press service.
A gentleman needs a team of experts on hand to make sure he looks his very best. A butler, valet, maid, chauffeur, cook, and assistant are all staff that will keep you in good standing. Whether these roles are filled with individuals or whether you are a person that likes to travel lightly in life you will need a team to support you.
The Valet is definitely a contact for your little black book.

Recently this was restored to its glory by the British Invisible Mending Service on Thayer Street.
The Jacket went to The Valet on Savile Row for a hand press, which is I believe the last hand pressing service in the UK.
Then it is doffed off wearing a Teardrop Fedora from BORGES & SCOTT
and wearing my tortoiseshell glasses from E.B. Meyrowitz situated on the Royal Arcade in Mayfair
I have known Tom for years through our mutual interest in gentility, so I was so pleased to see their company The Valet was going from strength to strength.
Ultimately, they know what they are doing and you can totally trust them.
Simples as one person once said….

They are very much from the stable of London’s Savile Row, with which they obviously have a perfect synergy, so for all you debonair dilettantes of good standing if you do not know The Valet then I strongly suggest you do.

Hand Pressing of Tailoring
The hand pressing of tailoring is an often overlooked, but essential, step in the bespoke process. Manipulating the cloth and construction with heat and pressure shapes the garment in a three-dimensional way that brings out the form intended by the cutter and tailor. The sponge pressing of garments, and using steam forced through the cloth fibres, is also the safest way to regularly freshen tailoring when frequent dry cleaning could lead to problems over time.

Part of the English style of tailoring is a shaped sleeve head, something that requires a little maintenance to hold its shape over the months and years. Similarly, the roll of a lapel (as opposed to a severe fold or crease) gives a jacket more attractive lines making it more pleasing and flattering.
George and his pressing team have been handling the vast majority of the hand pressing for Savile Row’s tailoring houses for over a decade, and it’s now with The Valet opening in Piccadilly Arcade that these services are also available to retail clients.

Prior to attending Henley Regatta, it was time to spruce and goose…
Pressing two shirts and one pair of trousers, along with spotting, sponging and pressing my Savile Row jacket.
