Savile Row’s Gentleman’s Style at The Cabinet War Rooms
CHIVAS DELUXE BLENDED SCOTCH WHISKY AND SAVILE ROW BESPOKE PRESENT THE ENGLISH GENTLEMAN AT THE CABINET WAR ROOMS
To find out more about Savile Row have a look at Savile Row Bespoke Association which is dedicated to protecting and promoting the practices and traditions of this world famous street which has dedicated to bespoke tailoring for over two centuries.
Savile Row
Savile Row is a name synonymous with masculine elegance, time-honoured tradition and discreet luxury. For almost five hundred years, this quiet and civilised street in Mayfair has played host to generations of the most talented artisans, lovingly dressing gentlemen and ladies of taste in some of the finest bespoke clothes the world has ever seen. From Winston Churchill to the Duke of Wellington, and from Fred Astaire to Elton John, the countless list of statesmen and celebrities to have graced the Row goes on.

Winston Churchill was my hero, I did my O’level history project on the man and would certainly say he was the finest Briton. A man though not necessarily as trim as the models on display certainly knew a thing about doing things properly.
Walking along through St James on a dark winters night and standing outside the War Rooms is one of those moments in a way like standing on a train platform and imagining one is in the film Brief Encounter, totally nostalgic and definitely moving.
Lining up in an orderly queue, no tea ladies though! we filed through and entered the event which took place underneath the streets of Whitehall in Churchill’s historic war time HQ featuring the bespoke tailors of Savile Row and St James’s along with London’s best shirt makers, shoe makers and hatters.

Modern Gentleman could be found enjoying a selection of sartorially inspired cocktails including the Cocktail Cuff, Chivas Three Piece and the Savile Row Classic, served by glamorous 1940’s usherettes

A selection of British gentleman including Michael Gambon, Adrian Gill, David Furnish, John Standing, Oliver Cotton and Kenneth Cranham stepped up to the mark as they re-enacted a tactical strategy meeting in the Chief Of Staff’s Conference Room, raising a glass of Chivas 18 Year Old to their imminent victory.
With my background as a film producer and a lover of history one cannot just be fascinated by living history that is right in front of you.
As with all Savile Row events the concept of merging the living models, part actor, part interactive history project brings it all to life and I must complement the models/actors for staying in character. The only thing missing is the smell, smoke, booze, fear and tension; but give it another few years and that will come as well.
Fortunately Savile Row & St James is one of those good news stories, not only excelling but succeeding and adding to our balance of payments ….queue Noel Coward and Michael Caine in The Italian Job, and both those gents knew a fair few farthings about style.
For those of you that like a gander, if you have never been or maybe do not know a massive amount about Savile Row or St. James …one day take your girlfriend, friend, partner for a wonder to Savile Row and St James, where so many of The Royal Warrant Holders have their premises, then stop in at one the vast array of good Public Houses and order yourself a Chivas and just take the weight of the world off your shoulders.

No more need be said.
Very impressive on all fronts.
