I visited Neville’s for the first time in 2014 and since have made this a regular point of call. Neville hair and beauty is renowned for being the original beauty landmark amongst the glamorous locals of London’s Knightsbridge and now ten years later I return to reassess.
The word luxury is banded about a lot, some justifiably and others not. Old money or new aesthetics? Slow luxury? Upper class or organic?
I think it’s increasingly hard for luxury brands to stand the test of time but if you are interested in visiting somewhere that understands what class is about this Neville’s is one such place.
In the same way that when judging a great chef or restaurant I would like to see them cook an omelette in that it is supposedly simple, so having a gentleman with short hair have a top end stylist is a good place to start, as this London salon is a leader in its field and has tended to the manes of the sleekest celebrities as well as fashion cognoscenti, it’s only appropriate that my minimalist mains are attended to by the best!

On my recent visit my hair was attended to by senior stylist Jason having joined in 2023, bringing his years of experience of fashion shows and commercial work. I have short hair so like decorating a room attention should paid to the preparation which for me is a decent scalp treatment, and then a cut to leave me looking not only well kept but healthy.
There is a real misperception that men with receding or thinning hair need not bother. This could not be further from the truth. Fortunately, we live in a time where short hair is in vogue and so it’s important that your hair is regularly cut.

For me a key part of the experience is to have some me time. In the same way that Anna Wintour likes to arrive at her fashion shows early, saying it’s a good time to think, I like this space to let go, recharge and let the mind wander which for me is a great space to dream up new ideas.

For myself I love a good pedicure, keeping my skin rejuvenated and as a walker it maintains my feet with any rough skin being removed regularly. In relation to my hands, for sometime I have had gel manicures with a pale polish applied as it gives the nail a healthy and smart look.

My manicurists, pedicurists and stylists have to look after me. Personally I like to have a friendly face, compassionate without being in my face. The art of running a good salon, hotel, restaurant or shop has much in common and a lot of this comes down to people skills. A smile and a welcome count for a lot whether you are buying a cup of coffee or a Rolls Royce.
Holly my manicurist has been there 19 years and we had a great chat about London, hair salons from the past and I reminded myself of the wonderful light that the salon has which is apparently Neville’s old apartment.
