Mr Stamford’s Luxury English Gentleman’s Umbrella. So you have a new wallet, you have been fitted for a bespoke shirt and now you need something for the winter rains, to protect you and your lady as a Gentleman should.
The classic long well-made Umbrella to my mind is an iconic item for a Gentleman but also is iconic item from the London archives.
I think of those famous photos of London men in bowler hats and umbrellas and of course the newspaper. Props if you like.
We think you should consider a luxury and originally new brand called Mr Stanford, who has taken this classic Umbrella and given it a new twist.

MR STANFORD Gentleman’s Umbrella
A Gentlemans attire is not complete without a classic straight umbrella.
Something that is sturdy, elegant and looks refined to promenade with.
MR STANFORD allow you to look stylish even when the weather conspires against it, a new design company that specializes in the design of umbrellas.
Based in Brighton’s Lanes, the umbrellas are made by England’s oldest umbrella manufacturer, dating back to 1805.
The only part of the umbrella not made in the UK is the lacquer handles, these are produced by a small workshop in Vietnam using the centuries old traditional method of building up 13 layers of lacquer resin on to the solid maple handles.
After years of living in Southeast Asia unable to find an umbrella that would stand up to the tropical monsoon and still look good MR STANFORD decided to design and manufacture his own.
Inspired by travel and tradition, the designer behind the collection is a former graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.
There are currently nine styles of umbrellas.
We have chosen the Rangoon.

For me the wonderful thing about a full length umbrella is you can stroll or promenade. If we are staying with films one is either going down the Singing in The Rain route or staying with the cold war atmospheric scenes of men in suites in Aquascutum macs meeting in the park, strolling along, using the umbrella as a stick and then sitting down on a park bench, reading the FT while talking to a man who is throwing bread to the swans.
