Recently I entertained a beautiful lady to dinner at Rosewood London, after arlier on in the summer I had visited the hotel for the first time since its highly successful renovations.
As part of London Collections I had attended Duchamp and Lutwyche shows and was really impressed by the mix of old school glamour but with such a contemporary décor.
So it came as no surprise the fashion world had embraced it, its golden glows mirroring off the brass interiors is not only original but genuinely gives one a feel of The Orient, an idea I felt was a bit of a coup in central London.
Sat in their reception the goings on of a 5star International hotel were in full but gentle swing. Within in a few minutes my friend had arrived and we were escorted through the courtyard which looked its best on a hot balmy evening. It has the air of a Parisian Hotel and with a well to do group enjoying life at their outside bar, a gentle and wonderfully frivolous mood was set.
Over the last few years there has been a move to French style café restaurants in London. It’s something they do exceptionally well and I suppose the name “The Holborn Dining Room” gives us a clue. I would also say it has a slight American feel, reminding me of some lovely restaurants I visited in Chicago. So for those of you that like a good gastro pub, it’s the hotel equivalent. If you think this is disparaging, far from it as some of the best evenings and meals I have eaten have been in gastro pubs.
The food I would describe as not only tasty but predominately Anglo with a touch of French though the menu is updated regularly.
The service was very friendly though do not expect them all to be Michelin trained. They are predominately young, friendly and international which for a relaxed dinner is perfect.
The ambience was as you might expect, a gentle buzz that was pretty much just right. Loud enough to feel the place was alive though very easy to hear what the other person was saying.
3 hours of chat from fashion, film, clients a touch of gossip through to travel and of course food, so you judge for yourself but I would say a success….
