Dining with Cartier to launch luxury fragrance L’envol. What is it about a luxury brand that makes it worth it. The answer quite simply is the experience. With a piece of clothing, some jewellery and most definitely some luxury perfume it’s the way it makes you feel.
Luxury for me is very much about sensuality and passion and emotion. We could talk for pages about the exact composition of a fragrance but in fact all should be individually tested. What we can do is express how it makes us feel.

Cartier invited Gentlemans Butler to an exclusive dinner at The Vinoly private dining room at the top of the Sky Garden in the City of London. The setting expressed the intent, class, intimacy, style and integrity. From the lines of Cartier boxes immaculately lined up,
tissue paper
and spacing placed with precision, the flowers on the table
specifically chosen to match the fragrance, an experience where we could taste the new L’envol. Everything was put in place for a piece of theatre to begin. After a brief introduction our select group sat down to a truly delicious meal of really tasty food but that had specific stylistic presentation and cooking to give it a unique quality.
A group of London’s Gentlemen along with a few glamorous ladies conversed, exchanged ideas and the next time you are at a dinner party, stop for a minute, without obviously dismissing your fellow guests and observe. I spent a lot of the evening talking with Cartier about two of my favourite subjects, luxury travel and elegance. For me conversation is an art, something that needs to be valued. I describe it a bit like a game of French cricket, with the ball being the idea. Great conversation requires thought but an open mind and not an intent just to repeatedly state ones case but to see where the ideas take you.
It was only a few days ago after a super stressful period of life that one afternoon I unwrapped my L’envol.
Though I had savoured the luxury fragrance before, it was now when my mind and heart were fully open to feeling something new that I felt the experience.
The smell is light, sweet, to my mind slightly feminine and very elegant. I adored instantly, genuinely as to my mind much though not all of experiencing true luxury style for Gentleman is being open to both the masculine and feminine in all of us. As I often recount James Bond is definitely a man but he knows his fragrance, wine and style.
The look is unique, with the casing,
and I use that word with intent because its glass casing reminds me of an early aviators fuel tank strapped to the back of his aeroplane.
And the feeling is one that adds to my life, a moment where I can wonder into a place of beauty and elegance, which is a very loving and emotive place.
