An afternoon with a special person …..a date …. a close friend …..an old friend ……
Hooking up with an old friend, well she is not old, of course, you never discuss a ladies age ….. however as I approach 50, yes 50 is that old or not …. Mmm …. It makes me laugh how the older you get, people older than you still call you young….. well I would say Cucina Asellina is pretty much perfect whatever age you. Its Italian after all so this is a culture where little bambinos run around getting in the way of the twenty somethings who are trying to avoid their parents, the 50 somethings and all the while the grand parents are just living, having stopped the crazy rate race … trying to impress everybody and just enjoying the company of friends, with a lovely cup of tea and slice of cake…
oh how English that sounds….if you watch an old film of London there is always 2 things they show …. a lady saying “ go on have a cup of tea and biscuit, you feel better after that” and a shot of men, and maybe some women probably in “The Rose and Crown having a port and lemon and a pint of ale”…. Well I adore English culture and I also adore Italian culture, two nations that share a huge history and love “amore” for each other.
Find someone you love, care for or just want to spend some quality time with and turn off that thing, yes you can live without your mobile for an hour or two and talk, laugh and share stories all the while you will be looked after by some very friendly staff. A Hungarian waitress called Noemi, was looking after us
….and then two glasses of prosecco arrived….time to unwind.
The interior is modern but comfortable and with the late afternoon sunshine rolling through the arched windows looking over The Aldwych it’s a very pleasing place to be
…..with a quality tea list we chose some chi….that’s pretty much all you have to decide…….scones, puddings, deserts, ciabatta …perfect….
Cucina Asellina has launched their ‘Taste of Italy’ afternoon tea. Priced form £29 or £35 with a glass of Prosecco per person, the tea comprises of Italian inspired sandwiches such as grilled courgette & sundried tomato served on focaccia bread. Followed by an Asellina red berry tiramisu; Sardinian style amaretti biscuit; Raspberry lychee rose mousse and raspberry sandwich; and buttermilk scones served with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam.
Taste buds feeling supreme, tummy nicely rounded you are in a perfect place for an early evening wander….to one side Fleet Street, the land of the scoop and the other Lincoln’s In Field who are maybe trying to avoid a scoop …and to the other theatre land. Nestled between old BBC world service building just a few doors along and the very chic ME hotel, also Italian ….. and if you are visiting between 18 November 2015 and 10 January 2016 do not forget the ice skating – Skate at Somerset House
with Fortnum & Mason
The car was left right outside … amazing ……then wandered into Covent Garden, then walked onto Waterloo Bridge …. queue that song …..Very very enjoyable few hours
