The recently renovated COMO Shambhala Urban Escape Spa is situated on the 2nd floor of The Metropolitan Hotel on Old Park Lane, London. The hotel & spa is part of Healing Hotels of the World, which was founded by Anne Biging, offering a collection of luxury hotels specialising in the holistic well-being of guests.

COMO Shambhala is a wellness concept developed as a sister brand to COMO Hotels and Resorts. Running as a thread through COMO properties worldwide, COMO Shambhala promotes a healthy way of living, learning and eating well. The pursuit of balance is central to the approach, the word Shambhala translating as ‘peace’ in Sanskrit.

The Metropolitan and COMO Shambhala in my opinion are genuinely different. One notices immediately the high end Asian minimalism . I walked in one very cold wintry afternoon with my body just beginning the delights of a winter’s cold so as I filled in my consultation form drinking their honey and ginger tea started well my wellbeing experience. I am a massive believer that good city spas can really transport you away from the hassle and bustle and just let you conk out, well why call it anything else!

The spa quite simply is just right, it’s simple but clean, well designed all with the central belief to de congest your mind. I changed and waited for my COMO Shambhala Detoxifying Skin Treatment & COMO Shambhala Signature Massage

  Katerina welcomed me and let me have lots of useful information as we went along. The COMO Shambhala Detoxifying Skin Treatment includes unique dry body brushing and Invigorate body scrub – (sugar and salt)

It is a great treatment to maintain healthy skin for the body and those wanting to follow a detox. Great all the year round but I think particularly in the winter to improve circulation and give us a real boost.

• The skin is the largest organ in the body and eliminates two pounds of waste acids daily; it is one of the most important elimination organs in the body.

• Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph aiding drainage of toxic matter into the colon cleansing the entire body.
• Dry brushing is good to tighten the skin and can help the appearance of cellulite as it feeds nutrient to the cells and aids circulation.

• Dry brushing is a very healthy method as it increases normal healing process throughout the body and stimulates the nerves and skin cells.

• Dry skin brushing aids to remove dead skin cells, which helps to replenish new skin cells, giving a healthier glow.

• *Dry skin brushing is good to remove dead skin cells before holiday as it can aid a longer lasting tan.

• The Body Scrub is made with sea salt and sugar soaked in macadamia nut oil to help soothe exfoliation. It removes dead, dull skin cells leaving the skin feeling smooth, soft and more radiant and it does, my skin felt radiant

• They use sarongs which I love, not only aesthetically but actually the feel is very light, soft and calming

• COMO Shambhala Signature Massage

• If you ask for Uki you will find out how massage should be done as the treatment was excellent.

• A nurturing massage using their signature Invigorate blended massage oil to calm the mind and rejuvenate the body.  This is a medium pressure massage, applying deeper work on areas that require more attention.

• Uses rocking movements up and down the body to warm the muscles and identify areas of tension

• Long firm strokes from bottom of the foot to the top of the shoulder

• Addresses tensions, whilst being very soothing and relaxing

• Very nurturing effleurage
• Unique Asian-inspired techniques. This is something that not only did I find very unique but highly effective

• 

  COMO Shambhala Invigorate Oil– for the ultimate rehydration of skin.  An uplifting and mood enhancing combination of eucalyptus, geranium, lavender and peppermint combined with oils to nourish, protect and moisturise the skin. The key Ingredients are:Sweet Almond Oil to excellent to soothe and soften the skin- rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E, known to calm skin irritation, great moisturiser for all skin types

Grapeseed Oil – extracted from the grape pips. It contains a high percentage of linoleic acid and some Vitamin E. It is one of the few oils that is cholesterol free.

Vitamin E Oil – penetrates the skin where free radical damage is occurring.  High in fatty acids- especially gamma linoleic acid (GLA) which nutrition wise is important to the body, as it affects many of the enzyme functions in the body.

Evening Primrose Oil  – is extracted from the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant. It has a high content of polyunsaturates and contains a large proportion, of linoleic acid. It can help dry skin as it it’s exceptionally fine textured oil that has superb moisturising qualities.

All COMO Shambhala products are free from sodium lauryl sulphate, parabens, petrochemicals, artificial colour, artificial fragrance and the packaging is recyclable.
